According to Author and Professor of Art, Kelly Dennis, the line between art and porn is not always clear. In Dennis's book , Art/Porn: A History of Seeing and Touching, she tries not to determine the distinction between art and porn , but trying to see why so many people want to distinguish the diffrence between them. Her publication on the issue and her cridentials more than qualify her as a credible source on the topic of "Art or Porn?". Dennis looks back as far as ancient times in the Renaissance up till the new age of the internet.
Professor Ayman Fadl, a professor at Cairo University (1990-2006) with an MA in Architecture, also explains the ancient froms of art. Fadl's speciality is in the ancien Egyptian art forms, to include Architecture, Crafts and Sclptures, Paintings, Literature, and Music. In his article on Egyptian art Fadl tells about the diffrent styles of art from the early Dynastic period up until to the Ptolemaic period, including the sexual types of art in which was common for this era.

What exactly is Kelly Dennis' book about? What do they mean by ancient forms of art? I think it's amazing that you are able to find so much about art or porn. Can't wait to see some pictures of what you are studying.
ReplyDeleteFunny I'm actually a art major. And ya I see allot of sex in art. Porn is definitely a form of art. There's good porn and sucky porn. Any body can pull out a camera and take a shot of their crotch, but to make it look good you have to have some talent and skill. Not that I think its a very deep form of art. Porn is powerful but it's very one dimensional as far as content, motivation and/or meaning. Nice pic by the way.
